The 2025 U16 SG Moore Cup Finals Day delivered a full day of quality cricket and a touch of drama as the weather played its part — but in the end, Wests proved once again why they’re the team to beat, securing back-to-back titles at No.1 Sportsground.
Semi Final 1 – Wests vs Newcastle City
Wests got their title defence off to a strong start in a rain-affected first semi-final. Batting first, they reached 3/76 in 13 overs before rain intervened, leaving Newcastle City with a revised DLS target of 89. Despite some determined batting, City finished 5/78, falling just short.
That result saw Wests book their place in the Grand Final, continuing their impressive form from last year’s campaign.
Semi Final 2 – Charlestown vs Merewether
Once the weather cleared, Charlestown and Merewether took to the field for the second semi-final. Charlestown posted 8/100, setting up a competitive chase.
Merewether’s reply was calm and clinical — led by strong top-order batting, they reached 2/101 in the 15th over to claim victory and the second spot in the Grand Final against Wests.
Grand Final – Wests vs Merewether
In the decider, Wests again showed their class and composure. Their bowlers were relentless, keeping Merewether to 10/89 (18.2 overs).
For Wests, Nebin Liby (4 overs, 3/17) and Joseph Vandenbergh (3 overs, 3/14) were standouts with the ball.
In reply, Wests made light work of the chase — Samuel Gallagher starred again with an unbeaten *53 (45), supported by *Izaan Mohammed (24), steering their team to 1/92 in just 14.1 overs to seal the championship.
At the conclusion of play, Simon Moore was on hand to present the 16 SG Moore Cup trophy to the victorious Wests team. He also presented the Rippit Player of the Final Award, which fittingly went to Samuel Gallagher for his all-round performance.
The victory sees Wests claim the U16 SG Moore Cup for the second consecutive year, a testament to their depth, consistency, and ability to perform under pressure.
Congratulations to all teams for an outstanding day of cricket and to Wests U16s, worthy champions once again!
