Volunteer of the Month: Wil Anson (Merewether DCC)
The Newcastle District Cricket Association is proud to recognise Wil Anson of Merewether District Cricket Club as the Beyond Bank Volunteer of the Month.
Wil’s nomination stood out for the sheer breadth of his contribution and the positive impact he continues to have across his club. A young volunteer who is simultaneously playing, coaching, and serving on the committee, Wil embodies the spirit of community cricket and the values this award represents.
A major part of Wil’s contribution is his work with the Merewether women’s plate team, where he dedicates countless hours to coaching and training. He brings enthusiasm, patience, and genuine care to every session, creating an environment where players feel supported and motivated. His commitment has had a clear and lasting effect on the team’s confidence, skill development, and enjoyment of the game.
Beyond the field, Wil is a highly dependable and proactive committee member. He takes responsibility for managing the club website and overseeing FrogBox coverage—roles that require technical skill, attention to detail, and a willingness to work quietly behind the scenes. Whether updating content, troubleshooting issues, or ensuring match-day streaming runs smoothly, Wil approaches every task with professionalism and consistency.
Perhaps most importantly, Wil is known as the person who always puts his hand up. No matter the size of the job, he is ready to help, support others, and strengthen the club community. His attitude and work ethic set a powerful example for other young players and volunteers, showing what it means to give back to the game.
Newcastle District Cricket Association and Beyond Bank are delighted to jointly acknowledge Wil’s efforts and leadership. Volunteers like Wil are vital to the health and growth of cricket across our region, and his contribution to Merewether District Cricket Club is both valued and appreciated.
Congratulations to Wil Anson on being named Volunteer of the Month, and thank you for everything you do for your club and our game.
