Beyond Bank Volunteer of the Year – Paul Hillier, Cardiff-Boolaroo

Paul’s Dedication Honoured with NDCA Volunteer of the Year Award

Few people embody the spirit of community sport like Paul, who was recently recognised as the Beyond Bank Volunteer of the Year at the NDCA Grand Final Luncheon—a prestigious award presented by Richard Stark of Beyond Bank.

A member of his club since 1988, Paul’s commitment has spanned decades as both a player and volunteer. This season, his contribution reached remarkable heights, taking on an extraordinary number of roles that have kept the club running both on and off the field.

Paul currently serves as Vice President, but his involvement extends far beyond a title. His many “hats” include Head of Cricket Operations, Selector, Gear Steward, Canteen Manager, Wet Weather and Grounds Liaison, Social Committee Assistant, and Master of Ceremonies at club events. And that’s just scratching the surface—there’s hardly a task within the club that Paul hasn’t supported or led.

One of Paul’s standout contributions has been his leadership of the club’s charitable partnership with the Hunter Medical Research Foundation (HMF). He’s been instrumental in coordinating fundraising initiatives and raising awareness of both the partnership and the club’s broader community engagement.

This season, when the club’s President was overseas for three months, Paul stepped into the Presidency role, all while continuing to manage his already extensive responsibilities. During that time, he quietly and effectively guided the club through some unexpected challenges, ensuring not only a smooth season but also the continued execution of the club’s strategic plan.

True to his nature, Paul is quick to share credit and highlight the support of others. However, those within the club know that his tireless efforts, steady leadership, and unwavering passion are central to its success.

Paul’s recognition as Volunteer of the Year is a fitting tribute to his decades of service and the countless hours he continues to dedicate for the benefit of others. His impact goes well beyond the scoreboard—he represents the heart of the club and the best of community sport.

Congratulations, Paul, on a well-earned and richly deserved honour.
