City of Newcastle Summer Bash Season Launch and Opening Round: A Glorious Start to an Exciting Cricket Competition!

On December 9th, the City of Newcastle Summer Bash kicked off in spectacular style at Rippit Golf, marking the official launch of the much-anticipated cricket competition! The event was attended by players representing 15 teams competing in the upcoming competition, as well as special guests including Lord Mayor Ross Kerridge of City of Newcastle, NBN, Newcastle Herald, and a fantastic array of sponsors. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, signaling the start of what promises to be an action-packed season!

The afternoon was filled with engaging player interviews, lively photo sessions, and of course, the highlight of the event — the Longest Drive competition!

Teams took to the course, battling it out both individually and as groups for the prestigious title. All eyes were on Toronto to see if they could retain their crown from last year, but in a thrilling twist, it was the Cardiff-Boolaroo team that rose to the challenge, claiming victory in the team aggregate competition! A huge congratulations to them for their impressive performance!

There were some incredible drives from players, and the competition was fierce! A special shout-out to the three individual longest drivers:

3rd place: Josh Moxey (Rebels)
2nd place: Dan Arms (Charlestown)
1st place: AJ Isherwood (Waratah-Mayfield)

Following on from the launch, City of Newcastle Councillor Peter Gittins attended the opening round formalities of the Summer Bash at No. 1 Sportsground, helping to launch the season with much fanfare and anticipation.

As the season begins, one of the most exciting moments on the horizon is the first-ever home game under lights for the Hunter Thoroughbreds! On January 10th, they will host the Black Roses at Singleton, a Friday night event that promises to be full of energy, family fun, and unforgettable cricket action. Don’t miss it!

This is just the beginning of what is set to be an amazing summer of cricket in the City of Newcastle. With so much talent, excitement, and community spirit on display, we can’t wait to see what the Summer Bash has in store!

Here’s to another thrilling season ahead!
