Gilmour Cup: Moore and Darwen Dominate as Merewether Gold Cruise Past Blue

Merewether Gold produced a commanding performance to defeat Merewether Blue in emphatic fashion, chasing down the target without losing a wicket in their T20 clash at Townson Oval.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Merewether Blue posted 6/148 from their 20 overs, with a mixed innings that featured both strong individual contributions and regular setbacks. A standout performance came from a middle-order batter who struck a fluent 63 from 39 balls, providing the backbone of the innings. Stephen Pryde added valuable late runs with an unbeaten 34, while Brent Watson and Rowan Kelly chipped in with useful contributions.

Despite reaching a competitive total, Blue were unable to fully capitalise, losing wickets at key moments to halt momentum. Simon Wall and Trent Bush were the most effective with the ball for Gold, both claiming two wickets and helping restrict the scoring through the middle overs.

In reply, Merewether Gold delivered a near-perfect batting display. Openers Patrick Darwen and Simon Moore controlled the chase from the outset, combining patience with controlled aggression to steadily dismantle the target.

Darwen finished unbeaten on 45, anchoring the innings, while Moore played the more aggressive role, blasting 89 not out from just 50 deliveries, including seven fours and seven sixes. The pair’s unbroken partnership ensured there were no chances for Blue to claw their way back into the contest.

Gold reached 149 without loss in just 15.4 overs, sealing a dominant victory with more than four overs to spare.

It was a clinical all-round performance from Merewether Gold, highlighted by disciplined bowling early and a flawless run chase, underlining their strength as a side.
