Congratulations to Wests, SG Moore Cup Champions for Season 24/25!
The Finals day was very memorable! The day kicked off with Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club making a strong statement in the first semi-final, defeating Belmont. Tremayne Small was the star with the bat, smashing 45 off just 21 balls to lead his side to a commanding total.
In the second semi, Newcastle City and Wests squared off in what would become Sam Gallagher’s match. Wests batted first, posting a competitive 6-130 from their 20 overs, with Gallagher blasting 62 from 62 balls and combining with Jacob Chaff (30) for a crucial 69-run second-wicket partnership. Newcastle City seemed well in control, cruising at 0-68 and then 3-100 in their chase. But in a dramatic collapse, they lost 7 wickets for just 10 runs, falling short by 20 runs. Gallagher starred with the ball, claiming 4-24, including a smart catch to dismiss the dangerous Checker, while Cooper Davies took 2-19.
Then came the final between Stockton and Wests. The home side won the toss and opted to field, setting the tone for the match. Stockton’s innings was steady, with tight bowling from Wests limiting them to 6-101. Davies took 2 wickets, while Riley Brown, Koby Blight, and Sam Gallagher each claimed 1.
With silverware tantalizingly close, Wests began their chase. The Rosellas lost their first wicket at 26, their second at 65, and their fourth at 87. The equation was simple: 14 runs needed, 6 wickets in hand, and plenty of balls to spare. However, Stockton’s bowlers weren’t done yet. In a tense finale, Wests lost 5 wickets for just 13 runs, leaving the crowd on the edge of their seats with near-miss run-outs, catches falling between fielders, and tense yes-no calls. It was thrilling, heart-stopping cricket with many nervous moments!
In the end, Wests managed to cling on for a dramatic 1-wicket victory, securing the title in a game that will be remembered for its nerve-wracking finish!
Rippit Player of Match went to Leo Thornton with 28 runs.
