Wallsend Claim Back-to-Back Tom Locker Cup Titles After Dominant Win

Wallsend Cricket Club has etched its name further into local cricket history, securing back-to-back Tom Locker Cup titles with a commanding victory over Stockton & Northern Districts. A masterful century from Aaron Wivell, backed by disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, sealed a memorable win to cap off another outstanding limited-overs campaign.

Wivell’s Magnificent 153 Sets Up a Match-Winning Total*

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Wallsend set the tone early through opener Aaron Wivell, who produced one of the standout innings in the competition’s recent history.

Wivell’s unbeaten 153 from 160 balls, featuring 14 fours and a six, was a display of patience, timing, and calculated aggression. He anchored the innings from start to finish, guiding his side to a formidable 5/269 from 50 overs.

He received strong middle-order support from Gethin Roberts (35 off 50), Callum Gabriel (26 off 44) and Captain Jacob Montgomery (36 off 30).

Despite disciplined efforts from Stockton & Northern Districts’ attack, including Patrick Magann’s 1/38 (8 overs) and Nick Foster’s 1/31 (10 overs), they struggled to contain Wivell’s relentless accumulation.

Wallsend Bowlers Hold Firm to Defend the Total

Chasing 270 for victory, Stockton & Northern Districts battled hard but were ultimately dismissed for 246 in 48.3 overs, falling 24 runs short.

Early resistance came from Jake Hainsworth (25 off 50), Asher Hart (44 off 65), Jeffrey Goninan (40 off 40) and Izach Dennis (31 off 24).

But Wallsend struck at crucial moments, regularly breaking partnerships to keep the chase under control: Jacob Page 1/31 (10 overs), Will Parkinson 2/28 (10 overs), Jacob Montgomery 2/56 (10 overs), and Callum Gabriel 3/67 (10 overs).

Fielding was equally sharp, highlighted by catches from Aaron Wivell (2) and Gethin Roberts (2WK).

A Historic Achievement for Wallsend

This triumph marks Wallsend’s second consecutive Tom Locker Cup victory, a testament to the club’s depth, balance, and strong culture. With experienced leaders and emerging young talent combining seamlessly, they have established themselves as the benchmark in local limited-overs cricket.

Back-to-back titles are rare in any competition and Wallsend’s achievement cements their place among the most consistent and well-drilled sides in the region. As the celebrations begin, one thing is clear: Wallsend Cricket Club’s legacy continues to grow, and the Tom Locker Cup may be staying in their trophy cabinet for some time yet.
